Looking For A Longer Life? Go Shopping!

An unbelievable scientific study has just proven outstanding benefit of regular shopping trips - it helps prolong your life. And, even more unbelievably, the study actually confirms the benefits are far greater for men.

The same study even suggests that the long term survival benefits of regular shopping trips are better than going to the gym.

It's all to do with the old social instincts of humanity. The so called behaviors related to herding, an inherent, but hidden, basic need of humanity. Seeing friends, or even simply people watching helps stave off loneliness and improve overall psychological health, according to the new report in the Journal Of Epidemiology and Community Health.

The study looked at almost 1,850 people aged 65 and over living independently at home in Taiwan, who were asked how many times they went shopping. The researchers then tracked how long the participants lived by linking individuals to national death registrations between 1999 and 2008.

The study proved that those who shopped daily lived longer than those who shopped less frequently, even after taking environmental, medical and financial factors into account on an individual basis.

The study proved that going shopping every day cut the chances of a participant dying during the period of the experiment by more than a quarter compared to those who didn't shop regularly.

Older men shopping frequently had the best survival record during the study, with a reduction of 28 percent in their chances of dying, compared to older women who receive slightly less benefit at just a 23 percent reduction in dying.

The study, conducted by the National Health Research Institutes in Zhunan, Taiwan, and headed by Dr Yo-Hung Chang accepted that those who shopped on a daily basis may have been in better health to begin with, but added:

'In shopping venues, socialising with, or watching others can provide social and mental benefits.

'Compared with other types of leisure -time physical activity, like formal exercise, which usually requires motivation and sometimes professional instruction, shopping is easier to undertake and maintain.'

According to many experts, the top benefit of regular daily is that subjects experience a heightened sense of happiness. Medical experts advise that during shopping, there is an increase of brain and bodily activity, particularly the release of more endorphins, in the left prefrontal cortex of your brain, a part that is associated with happiness and positive thinking. This explains why shoppers feel elated and excited when seeing something they want to buy.
