Sunny Health & Fitness Pro Indoor Cycling Bike | Gain Muscle Size

Bodybuilding March 30th, 2012

I recently purchased the Sunny Health & Fitness Pro Indoor Cycling Bike. I?ve utilised it several times and I am just very happy which i went using this type of bike.

I can?t talk about other equivalent priced bikes available on the market ($250-$500 range), but I don?t think you can not work out using this bike if you?re not looking to invest over a new $1000 with a decent spinning bike.

I?m not really a hardcore rewriter, but I?ve gone to enough tuition at different gyms to learn that this bike performs just and also $1000+ ones I?ve made use of at industrial gyms. It?s got the very same feel since those bicycles, and that?s something MY SPOUSE AND I wasn?t guaranteed I?d be in a bike that charge far much less.

Here are some bullet points to the bike:

-Quick supply.

-box was a bit torn within the corners when i received that. I propose opening the idea up and checking in it?s issue. I truly sent back the initial one I received mainly because I sensed bent metal after i reached in the torn hole. However, I thought to open up cost-free one plus discovered that the bent sheet metal was a new ?protective piece? to avoid damage on the front with the bike. Just take care when people open it just in case there may be a problem and you should tape this box ? up ? and post back!

-I?m 5?11? as well as 190 fat and I?d no trouble adjusting the particular seat plus handle bars to get to a relaxed and correct riding situation.

-the wheel spins smoothly plus the resistance will be consistent along with ample. The busting lever works great at the same time. I bought a of our resistance bike a decade ago plus it?s currently dismantled and collecting airborne dirt and dust. If you will be undecided between the two, take it from myself, go considering the ?spin class? type bike! You do not need a calorie or maybe distance counter-top.

if you don?t feel just like you?re being employed or not really sweating, you are going to know it. If you require a coronary heart rate monitor, go with one of the watch kinds?they?re far more accurate than possessing a cardiovascular exercise machine?s handlebars to get a reading.

Overall, 5 beyond 5 with this bike. I?m sure more costly ones have more possibilities or gadgets that will be useful for that hardcore spinners, but in case you are like myself and in spinning however don?t need the extras and the added cost to receive them, then select this bike.

(AP) ? Consumers probably won't have to pay more for iPads, iPhones and other popular consumer electronics despite a Chinese company's pledge to trim work hours and raise wages for its hardscrabble assembly workers.

The paychecks have already been steadily growing even before this week's pledge, and labor expenses remain a small portion of the total bill for most gadgets made in China.

At most, the cumulative wage increases could crimp the profits of major technology companies. Manufacturers have a bigger worry in finding ways to save money on the parts that power the devices.

Nonetheless, assembly costs are likely to escalate because of Foxconn Technology Group, which assembles an estimated 40 percent of the world's electronics, including the hot-selling iPhone and iPad.

Foxconn, owned by Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., promised to limit hours while keeping total pay the same. That commitment will translate into higher hourly wages.

The pledge came after Apple Inc., the world's most valuable company, hired a labor auditor to review the practices and conditions in Chinese factories run by Foxconn. A report on the audit, released Thursday, evoked images of a sweatshop and said Foxconn routinely violated overtime laws by assigning its assembly-line workers to toil for more than 60 hours per week.

Foxconn's concession is expected to have ripple effects not only because it involves Apple, one of the world's most scrutinized companies, but also a major Chinese employer that cuts a broad swath.

Foxconn has about 1.2 million workers and either currently or has assembled products for a long list of technology companies including Microsoft Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co. and Dell Inc. Those companies' smartphones, computers, video game consoles and other devices have become household staples around the world.

"I think whatever Foxconn did will have an impact, certainly, on all Chinese workers in all trades," said Willy Lin, managing director of Hong Kong-based Milo's Knitwear, which makes clothing in three factories in China for European clients.

Japan's Toshiba Group, which employs 32,000 workers in China to make products such as refrigerators and TVs, said it already plans similar changes to reduce overtime work and improve working conditions at its factories.

China has long been a low-cost manufacturing center for goods stamped with some of the world's best-known brands.

But wages there have been steadily rising for years as companies compete for workers.

IHS iSuppli analyst Thomas Dinges believes China's communist leadership also realizes that the country's economic evolution requires raising the standards of living so more factory workers assembling the devices will eventually be able to buy them.

After the 2008 global financial crisis triggered a freeze in the minimum wage to help exporters compete, Chinese workers have received big pay increase over the past two years, though salaries remain paltry by Western standards.

Foxconn responded to a spate of suicides by employees in 2010 by more than doubling its basic monthly salary to 1,800 yuan ($290). That year, Toyota Motor Corp. and other Japanese automakers also granted pay hikes following a wave of strikes that had tacit government support.

China's leaders have already promised to double the country's minimum wage from 2010 levels by 2015.

The minimum wage in Shanghai, one of the world's most expensive cities, is about 1,200 yuan ($200) a month after an increase of more than 10 percent last year. The northern city of Tianjin raised its minimum wage to 1,070 yuan ($175).

Beijing has tightened enforcement of wage and hour rules "because there has been a general lack of compliance ? greater than in other countries," said K. Lesli Ligorner, head of the China employment group for the law firm Simmons & Simmons. "China is trying to make sure that at least at the lowest level of unskilled workers, there are greater protections in place for them."

The higher wages in China haven't resulted in higher prices for electronics so far, nor have they seriously dented the profit margins of technology companies, Dinges said.

That's largely because the labor bill typically represents less than 10 percent of the total cost for most gadgets. It's even less significant for Apple, which has used its clout and high demand for its products to negotiate extremely favorable deals with its suppliers and contractors.

ISuppli estimates that Apple pays less than $8 for the assembly of a 16-gigabyte iPhone 4S and $188 for its components. The phone sells in the U.S. for $649, though wireless carriers offer them at a subsidized $199 with a two-year service contract.

The estimates suggest that if Apple were to absorb a Foxconn wage increase to keep pay the same and cut the work week from 60 hours to 49, it would pay about $2 more to have an iPhone made. Dinges expects Apple to offset any higher labor expense by wringing out savings elsewhere.

Not that $2 will make much of a difference. Apple's regulatory filings imply that it makes hundreds of dollars in profits per phone.

Apple's latest iPad costs slightly more to make even though the tablet computer is less expensive to assemble than the iPhone, according to iSuppli. The firm estimates parts cost $325. Labor adds just $4 more to the bill.

Other technology companies might have a tougher time dealing with potentially higher labor costs because their profit margins are far thinner than Apple's.

Even so, higher prices for parts remain a bigger worry than rising labor costs. For instance, the labor costs for Microsoft's Xbox 360 are less than $10 while all the parts cost nearly $210, according to iSuppli. The video game console retails for about $300.

Amazon.com Inc. may already be selling its $199 tablet computer, the Kindle Fire, at a loss after marketing expenses and distribution costs are factored in. ISuppli estimates the Kindle Fire's parts cost about $173 while labor expenses add another $14.

Personal computer makers such as HP and Dell already have had to deal with higher prices for disk drives after massive flooding closed key factories in Thailand last fall. Now, prices for an important memory chip called DRAM could rise because a major Japanese supplier, Elpida Memory Inc., recently filed for bankruptcy protection.

Wages, workplace conditions and the environmental impact are sensitive for many U.S. and European companies after years of scathing criticism from human-rights groups. Nike Inc., Gap Inc. and The Walt Disney Co. are among the companies that have spelled out labor standards with the foreign factories that make shoes, clothing, toys and other goods sold under their brands.

Now it's the technology industry's turn to crack down, even if it means higher assembly costs.

Veteran technology analyst Rob Enderle believes U.S. technology firms will be able to pressure Foxconn and other Chinese manufacturers into absorbing the higher labor costs on their own. As leverage, the U.S. firms can threaten to move the assembly work elsewhere, such as Mexico or Taiwan.

Higher costs in China already have prompted some companies in labor-intensive industries such as shoes and textiles to migrate to Vietnam and other lower-wage economies.

"It's too early to tell how this is going to work out," Enderle said. "My expectation is that a lot of these Foxconn workers who are getting higher salaries are going to be unemployed a year from now because they were quietly let go or the work moved elsewhere."

Thyroid Surgery Riskier for Older Patients: Study - Health News ...

FRIDAY, March 30 (HealthDay News) ? Seniors who have thyroid surgery are much more likely than younger patients to suffer serious heart, lung and infection-related complications, according to a new study.

The findings challenge the widely held belief that thyroid surgery (thyroidectomy) is a low-risk operation for older patients, the researchers said.

They analyzed data from 7,915 patients in the United States who had all or part of their thyroid gland removed. The risk of postoperative complications was five times higher in patients 80 and older and two times higher in patients ages 65 to 79, compared to younger patients.

The study appears in the May issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

The number of elderly patients in the United States undergoing thyroid operations is increasing due to an aging population, and rising rates of thyroid cancer and benign thyroid conditions, the researchers said.

?It is important to understand that our study emphasizes the importance of the entire medical system that cares for these elderly patients, not just the surgeon,? study lead author Dr. Raymon Grogan, of the University of Chicago, said in a journal news release.

?In our study, elderly patients were susceptible to life-threatening, nonsurgical complications. Thus it is important that an elderly patient undergoing thyroid surgery have an experienced team of primary care physicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses who handle these types of surgeries on a routine, daily basis,? Grogan said.

New Haven, Conn. A person's mere presence in a room can add 37 million bacteria to the air every hour material largely left behind by previous occupants and stirred up from the floor according to new research by Yale University engineers.

"We live in this microbial soup, and a big ingredient is our own microorganisms," said Jordan Peccia, associate professor of environmental engineering at Yale and the principal investigator of a study recently published online in the journal Indoor Air. "Mostly people are re-suspending what's been deposited before. The floor dust turns out to be the major source of the bacteria that we breathe."

Many previous studies have surveyed the variety of germs present in everyday spaces. But this is the first study that quantifies how much a lone human presence affects the level of indoor biological aerosols.

Peccia and his research team measured and analyzed biological particles in a single, ground-floor university classroom over a period of eight days four days when the room was periodically occupied, and four days when the room was continuously vacant. At all times the windows and doors were kept closed. The HVAC system was operated at normal levels. Researchers sorted the particles by size.

Overall, they found that "human occupancy was associated with substantially increased airborne concentrations" of bacteria and fungi of various sizes. Occupancy resulted in especially large spikes for larger-sized fungal particles and medium-sized bacterial particles. The size of bacteria- and fungi-bearing particles is important, because size affects the degree to which they are likely to be filtered from the air or linger and recirculate, the researchers note.

"Size is the master variable," Peccia said.

Researchers found that about 18 percent of all bacterial emissions in the room including both fresh and previously deposited bacteria came from humans, as opposed to plants and other sources. Of the 15 most abundant varieties of bacteria identified in the room studied, four are directly associated with humans, including the most abundant, Propionibacterineae, common on human skin.

Peccia said carpeted rooms appear to retain especially high amounts of microorganisms, but noted that this does not necessarily mean rugs and carpets should be removed. Extremely few of the microorganisms commonly found indoors less than 0.1 percent are infectious, he said.

Still, understanding the content and dynamics of indoor biological aerosols is helpful for devising new ways of improving air quality when necessary, he said.

"All those infectious diseases we get, we get indoors," he said, adding that Americans spend more than 90 percent of their time inside.

The researchers have begun a series of similar studies outside the United States.

New Haven, Conn. A person's mere presence in a room can add 37 million bacteria to the air every hour material largely left behind by previous occupants and stirred up from the floor according to new research by Yale University engineers.

Trayvon Inc: Fla teen's case turns into brand

MIAMI (AP) ? From the T-shirt and hoodie sales to trademarking slogans like "Justice for Trayvon" to the pass-the-hat rallies that bring in thousands, the case of an unarmed black teenager killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer is quickly turning into an Internet-fueled brand.

Websites are hawking key chains bearing Trayvon Martin's likeness. His parents have bought two trademarks, saying they hope to raise money to help other families struck by tragedy. Trayvon clothes, bumper stickers, buttons and posters are up for grabs on eBay.

Vendors selling Martin T-shirts and hoodies have become fixtures at rallies in Sanford, the central Florida town where Martin was shot last month. At one Sanford rally this week, a man had a variety of T-shirts laid out on the ground as marchers went by, yelling out, "I've got every size!"

The Martin shooting by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmernan, who says he shot the 17-year-old Miami teen in self-defense, has inflamed racial tensions across the country, brought out thousands for rallies, prompted a civil rights probe and a personal reference to the case by President Barack Obama.

A phenomenon on that scale is bound to be commercialized, said Donna Hoffman, a marketing professor at the University of California-Riverside.

"People can start to wear their feelings and emotions. It makes sense, even if there's a profit motive," Hoffman said. "There's a legitimate interest in sharing the pain, and these products do that."

Van Johnson, who designs T-shirts and other apparel in Charlotte, N.C., said he initially wanted to come up with something for his 12-year-old son to show solidarity with Martin's supporters. He produced a color drawing based on a photograph of Martin wearing a hoodie, which the teenager was wearing on the night he was killed.

"I really don't expect to make more than $200 at the most," Johnson said. "I'm happy some people bought my products, that way a few people will have a very nice design on their shirt or hoodie to show their support."

Karrie Muhammad, who runs Young Nation Apparel in St. Louis, is selling a separate hoodie for $35 with the words "Please Don't Shoot Me I Only Have Skittles And A Drink!!!" Martin was returning from a convenience store with the candy and iced tea when he was confronted by Zimmerman.

"We really just kind of put the shirt out there this week. It's not necessarily profit at all," Muhammad said. "I wanted to bring some awareness to the issue. I felt it would be a good way to expose the store, to get our name out there."

Zimmerman, 28, who has a white father and Hispanic mother, has not been charged. Martin's parents have demanded he be arrested. The U.S. Justice Department has launched a probe to look for possible civil rights violations; a special state prosecutor is also investigating. Jackelyn Bernard, spokeswoman for special prosecutor Angela Corey, said Wednesday the investigation could take weeks and said it's unclear if a grand jury will be empaneled.

Hoffman said it's difficult to gauge how the Trayvon sales might stack up against those from similar cases, such as the 1992 Los Angeles riots following the Rodney King beating, because those were before the explosion of Internet marketing.

"Anyone can do it with any image," she said.

Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, headed off potential profit-seekers by filing trademark applications last week for the words "Justice For Trayvon" and "I Am Trayvon." The applications say the slogans may be used in digital media formats including CDs and DVDs. A family attorney said Wednesday the purpose is mainly to prevent others from exploiting Martin's image.

"It wasn't to make money off Trayvon's name, it was to stop the exploitation of Trayvon's name," said the attorney, Natalie Jackson. "We wanted this family to own their child's legacy."

A sign company called FamilyGraphix decided this week to pull its Martin-related decals after learning of Fulton's move. One such decal, which was to sell for $8, said "Don't Shoot Me, All I Have Is A Bag of Skittles."

Johnson, the T-shirt designer, questioned Fulton's move.

"You would think the parents of Trayvon Martin would encourage the spreading of their son's name and image," he said. "As a parent of four, I personally would welcome any and all exposure. I would want my son's name everywhere."

At rallies and church services, thousands of dollars in pledges have been made to help Fulton and Tracy Martin, Martin's father, pay expenses including travel to events in Washington and New York, Jackson said. At one early rally, the Rev. Al Sharpton asked people to make out checks to Fulton and put them in buckets that were passed around.

"Let's show the world we're going to finance our own movement," said Sharpton, who pledged $2,500 himself.

The case has had other benefits for involved organizations. More than 30,000 people signed an NAACP petition to Florida prosecutors in just a 24-hour period. Eric Wingerter, spokesman for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored people, says the organization hasn't used the case as a fundraising tool but has seen an uptick in memberships.

At some point, Hoffman said, the Trayvon Martin brand could wear thin if it's overused.

"People might feel, 'I'm sick of hearing about this.' That feeling could be accelerated if everywhere you turn, there are people wearing their hearts on their sleeve," Hoffman said. "All this merchandise out there will start to have a taint in the mind of the public."

Stopping statin therapy increases risk of death for rheumatoid arthritis patients

ScienceDaily (Mar. 28, 2012) ? Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who discontinue use of statin therapy are at increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease and other causes. According to the findings of a population-based study now available in Arthritis Care & Research, a journal published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), RA patients should be advised of the importance of compliance to their statin therapy to reduce cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality risk.

A report from the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that RA affects up to one percent of the population in developed countries. Studies have shown that death rates among those with RA are 1.5-fold higher than in the general population, with CVD cited at the leading cause of mortality in this patient group. Statins -- drugs such as atorvastatin (Lipitor) and rosuvastatin (Crestor) that are used to lower cholesterol and manage heart disease -- are a common therapy for RA patients who are at greater risk of heart disease. Previous research reported 38% of RA patients permanently discontinue statin therapy, consequently increasing their heart attack risk by 67%.

"Our study provides evidence of the harmful effects of ceasing statin therapy," said lead author Mary De Vera, Ph.D., with the University of British Columbia School of Population & Public Health and Arthritis Research Centre of Canada. Using data from the British Columbia Ministry of Health records, researchers identified 37,151 RA patients who received health services between January 1996 and March 2006. Of those with RA there were 4,102 patients who used statins. The team defined statin discontinuation as non-use of the prescribed medication for three months or more, anytime during the course of therapy.

The mean age of the RA group was 67 years, with 60% of the group being women. More than 16,144 person-years of follow-up were recorded for patients using statins, with roughly 45% of statin users discontinuing therapy at least once during the 4-year follow-up period. The authors reported 198 deaths from CVD and 467 deaths overall. Of the CVD deaths, 31% were from heart attacks and 15% from strokes.

Further analysis revealed that statin discontinuation was associated with a 60% increased risk of CVD deaths and 79% for deaths from all causes, which was not moderated by timing of the first statin prescription, age, or gender. "RA patients who discontinue statin therapy are at increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease," concludes Dr. De Vera. "Our study findings emphasize the importance of medication compliance in RA patients who are prescribed statins."

Romney has no idea how insurance works in ... - AMERICAblog News

Mitt Romney on Jay Leno's show last night:

?People with pre-existing conditions, as long as they have been insured before, they are going to be able to continue to have insurance,? Mr. Romney said. ?If they are 45 years old, and they show up and say, ?I want insurance because I have heart disease,? it?s like, ?Hey guys, we can?t play the game like that.? You?ve got to get insurance when you are well, and then if you get ill, you are going to be covered.?
You sir, are an idiot.

The only reason people wouldn't have insurance is if they're cheapskates? ?Really?

What if you lose your job and thus lose your workplace insurance? You only get COBRA for 18 months, and that's only if you can afford to pay the full premium. What do you do after the 18 months if you're still unemployed? Or what if you're in grad school full time? Only half of schools in America offer insurance. And in any case, it's lousy insurance AND they can and do exclude you for pre-existing conditions. ?And when you leave school, what happens - you once again are without insurance (unless you can skate by on your parents' plan, and that's only because of "Obamacare," which Romney wants to repeal).

Or here's another scenario. ?What if you move back home, across state lines, to take care of your sick and dying parents? ?Unless you're working for a company that offers insurance, you lose your health care and have to start all over again. ?And presto! ?They can turn you down for pre-existing conditions. ?Or what if you decide to change jobs and work for yourself - you can't, because you'll lose your insurance and be subject to pre-existing conditions. ?Same thing happens if you try to move to another state for any reason at all. ?You lose your coverage.

It's stunning the degree to which Mitt Romney flubbed such a basic question. ?It's an answer a rich guy would give, a guy who has zero idea how 99% of Americans actually live. ?This was shockingly naive.

From the Editor's Desk: Quick hits

Phil Nickinson

It's a working weekend, so here are a few quick thoughts to keep things moving:

  • Picked up the Kindle Fire again this week. Google should be praising it publicly as being a shining example of what Android can do. And we should be, too. What Amazon has done with the Kindle Fire will do more for Android as a whole than 37 versions of a Samsung tablet will. You might not see it this year, but it's no doubt lighting some fires under folks.
  • Speaking of Samsung. How many devices do they have? How many do they have coming? Not every leak or every rumored event has to be the mythical Galaxy S III. (Nor can they be.)
  • Same goes for random Motorola phones coming out of China. I don't think those of us in the states have any sort of real appreciation for just how many models are manufacturered for Asian markets.
  • If you care at all about the AT&T version of the HTC One X, I'd keep an eye on this thread. Testers dropping deets.
  • Kinda sorta actually getting excited to try Instagram for Android. At least to see what the fuss is all about. Be sure to sign up for their mailing list so you'll know when it's released. Or, you know, read Android Central. (Or probably just stick your head out a window that day.)
  • Or I could just go try it on my wife's iPhone 4S, I guess.
  • Nahhhh.
  • If you're interested in design, the latest Iterate podcast is pretty killer.
  • And the more I think about it, the more we need to stop talking about "skins." They're really not a second UI on top of another UI.
  • Don't forget, general sales for Google IO tickets start Tuesday morning. Shouldn't last long.
  • I think I might have been a little hard on the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, at least when it comes to the hardware. (And an early typo in the specs didn't help matters any.) It definitely deserves a look if someone's in search of a mid-level Android smartphone. (I also think I might not have been hard enough on the ridiculous name.)

Vital Information Every Parent Should Know Regarding Natural ...

Some babies seem more prone to rashes than others. These skin disorders can create an uncomfortable situation for a child. However many parents have discovered that there are several natural treatments for baby eczema that can be used to relieve the problem.

Many parents learn very quickly to avoid products that are overly perfumed. The best products are hypoallergenic and unscented. Even products formulated for babies that have the scent often associated with a new born may cause the skin problem to become worse. It is best to avoid these products whenever possible.

Watch for products that sometimes make changes in ingredients. If a parent has located a product that seems to prevent the problem and stocks start to run low, check the manufacturer?s website for a new and improved product. Try to stockpile the old product as much as possible. Not all hypoallergenic detergents are created equal, especially against a young child?s delicate skin.

Avoid bathing the child every day. Switch to an every other day routine for regular baths. In most cases, this provides plenty of cleanliness and prevents the water from robbing the skin from needed moisture.

Replace soap with oatmeal. Try placing a small amount in the end of a cotton sock to wash the body. It provides the soapiness needed for the bath but soothes skin that has become irritated. Be sure to throw the oatmeal out after each bath.

Some parents have found success by bathing the child in bleach water. It only takes one eighth cup for each ten gallons of water, so use the bleach sparingly. In addition, make sure the child does not drink the bath water. After bath time is finished, use a good moisturizer on the skin.

Sometimes home remedies fail and parents will need to resort to Hydrocortisone or other medication to provide relief to the child. If the medications available over the counter do not work, speak with a doctor about a prescription for a better quality medication. The doctor may provide one or more medications to help the child to feel better.

No one wants to see a child suffer. If a skin condition is causing irritation that is itchy and irritated, then these natural treatments for baby eczema may be helpful. Sometimes the most effective therapy is prevention of the problem in the first place.

Natural skin care is important regardless of the age of the individual. Baby eczema should be solved with the right soothing products.

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) ? Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Sunday that he has begun radiation therapy in Cuba as part of cancer treatment one month after undergoing an operation that removed a tumor.

Chavez said in a phone call broadcast live on Venezuelan television that he had his first radiation session after he arrived late Saturday. He said that would be the first of five daily treatments and that he expects to be back in Venezuela for a three-day break starting Thursday, before returning to Cuba for the next five-day round.

Chavez will be in Cuba at the same time as Pope Benedict XVI, who arrives on the island on Monday after a visit to Mexico. Chavez didn't refer to the pope's visit to Havana, but he did say he views his own Christian faith and prayer as providing strength in his struggle against cancer.

"In reality, part of the treatment is prayer, faith ? faith in God, in our God, in our Christ the redeemer," Chavez said. "It's part of my job to assume with rigor this task of fighting to overcome the difficulties, and to continue living."

Chavez has frequently clashed with Roman Catholic leaders in Venezuela, but he has often expressed faith in God and has said he views Jesus' principles as having been essentially socialist.

The Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, was asked Sunday about reports the pope might meet with Chavez while in Cuba. Lombardi said that as of Sunday morning, there were no such plans.

"That can change, anything can change," he told reporters. But he said the pope's delegation hadn't heard that Chavez was in Cuba until Sunday morning, and that they reported having received no request for any audience.

Chavez chatted with his vice president, Elias Jaua, in the phone call while the television panned to views of a government-run fish farm. The president said he plans to keep on top of government business as he comes and goes from Cuba for the treatments.

"I'm well, thanks to God," Chavez said, adding that he had been out for a walk in the sun in Havana.

Chavez has been recovering from a Feb. 26 surgery in Havana that he said removed a tumor from the same spot in his pelvic region where another tumor was extracted eight months earlier.

On Saturday night, Chavez was met by Cuban President Raul Castro as he arrived at Havana's airport. Venezuelan television showed Chavez saluting as he stepped off the plane holding hands with one of his daughters, and then embracing Castro.

In Venezuela, some of Chavez's aides led his supporters in a prayer for his health Sunday morning outside the cathedral in the southwestern city of San Cristobal, and then the crowd began a pilgrimage on foot to another church.

"He's a man with an iron will," Youth Minister Mari Pili Hernandez told a crowd of supporters during the walk. "We give thanks to God for our commander's health, for him to take care of (Chavez) for us, protect him, give him a lot of strength."

After he was diagnosed with cancer in Cuba last year, Chavez underwent an initial surgery in June to remove a tumor that he said was the size of a baseball. He then had four rounds of chemotherapy and said tests showed no signs of any cancerous cells. But last month, he announced he was returning to Cuba for surgery to remove a lesion that proved to be malignant. He has described the most recent tumor as measuring about 2 centimeters (0.8 inches).

Chavez has not identified the type of cancer nor the precise location where the tumors have been removed.

The president has said the radiation treatments will last for four to five weeks and are intended to "attack any new threat." He said he expects to be traveling back and forth between Venezuela and Cuba during that period.

He said on Saturday that he preferred to return to Cuba for radiation therapy because that is where his cancer was first detected last year and where he has undergone surgeries since.

Chavez said he is thankful to his close allies and friends Fidel and Raul Castro for the medical care he has received. He praised Cuba's health care system as "one of the most advanced in this world, thanks to the Cuban revolution."

Chavez is running for re-election in October and vows that his illness will not get in the way of that political goal.

Last year, Chavez shaved his head during chemotherapy after his hair began falling out as a result of the treatments.

Now, as he starts radiation therapy, potential side effects include fatigue, abdominal cramping, nausea and vomiting, said Dr. Michael Pishvaian, an oncologist at Georgetown University's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center who is not involved in Chavez's treatment.

The radiation is often administered for a short period each day, with breaks on weekends, Pishvaian said. "I would imagine that he probably could go about his daily activities even being a president."

Following radiation therapy, patients typically need two weeks to a month to recover from the effects of the treatment, Pishvaian said. "Then he should actually be pretty much back to normal, but will be on sort of high alert for watching to see if the cancer comes back again."
