SALT LAKE CITY ? A Utah family is losing their locks for a good cause.
Heal Courageously is an organization that tries to lift the burden of breast cancer from sufferers in Utah.
?What we do is we come to you in these moments when you?re being tested and we honor your strength and your courage and what it takes to get through it,? said Michelle Marthia.
Each participant does a photo shoot before, during and after shaving his or head to document the process and help victims of breast cancer feel less fearful.?For women like Lisa Duckworth, the organization has brought some control back to an often unpredictable situation.
?Part of the reason I have chosen to shave my head is because there are so many things you have out of your control when you are faced with breast cancer and so I felt like this was a way to exert some control of the situation,? Duckworth said.
Duckworth?s family members also shaved their heads to show support.
?You know, your family, they deal with this horrible thing that they never thought they?d have to deal with, having to face the possible loss of a loved one. And I?m so active with my family, I know they would miss me cause I?m there all the time,? Duckworth said. ?So it?s really great that they?ve been such a great support.?
