The Thousand Oaks 18-under all-star baseball team will make its first appearance in the Big League World Series since 2010 when it faces Cumberland County, N.J., at 1 p.m. PDT today in Easley, S.C.

Thousand Oaks (9-0), which has outscored opponents 105-16, is looking to capture the first 18-under title by a District 13 representative since 2006. The district also captured a World Series crown in 1998.

Thousand Oaks needs to place in the top two in the U.S. pool in order to compete in Tuesday's semifinals.

Following a 15-4 loss Monday to Thousand Oaks in the North sub-divisional of the 11-under all-star baseball tournament, Encino rebounded with a 27-6 victory Tuesday over Redondo Beach and will get its rematch with Thousand Oaks at 6 p.m. today at Quartz Hill Little League Field.

Thousand Oaks (7-0) can secure a berth in the best-of-three divisional championship series Saturday in El Cajon with a victory. Encino (11-2) can force a deciding game at 6 p.m. Thursday with a win.

Sherman Oaks (8-0) is in position to advance to the 10-under all-star baseball best-of-three championship series in San Diego with a victory at 7 p.m. today in the North sub-divisional final against Moorpark (9-2) -- which posted a 4-3 victory Tuesday over Tustin Eastern -- at Sierra Madre Little League.

Sherman Oaks Southern (9-0) faces Santa Maria Southside (11-1) at 6 p.m. today in the North sub-divisional 12-under

Burroughs wins Burbank summer girls volleyball title

Taft was trying to win the Burbank girls volleyball summer league championship for the third year in a row and Eagle Rock was seeking its second title this month.

But it was Burroughs that prevailed Monday at rival Burbank High, defeating Eagle Rock in the final 25-22, 9-25, 15-10.

Eagle Rock, which defeated Glendale and Burbank to reach the gold division final, rallied from an eight-point deficit in the first game against Burroughs to tie the score at 19, but couldn't complete the comeback.

Emi Phidayeva's serving in the second game helped the Eagles -- who won the Gabrielino tournament July 11 -- force a deciding game, but Burroughs was too strong down the stretch.

Sylmar won the silver division by sweeping Fairfax.

Taft couldn't duplicate its run to the final from Saturday's San Gabriel Summer Classic, when it suffered a 25-9 setback to host San Gabriel.

The Toreadors defeated Gabrielino, San Marino and Monrovia to reach the San Gabriel tournament final.

Eagle Rock suffered a 25-21 loss to San Gabriel in Saturday's semifinals.
