A year after he crashed his SUV into a telephone pole in the Hamptons, newly hired Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd returns to court on Tuesday to answer drunken driving charges.

Kidd retired as an NBA player after last season and was hired to coach the Nets.

He was arrested on July 15, 2012. Southampton Town police say he smashed his Cadillac SUV into a telephone pole in the hamlet of Water Mill. Police say he smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. He was the only person in the vehicle and suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Kidd has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor DWI charge.

The 10-time All-Star was arrested on a 2001 domestic violence charge and acknowledged he struck his former wife.
