Rome artists exhibit in Calhoun

Calhoun?s Harris Arts Center will present?exhibits in its galleries during the next few months featuring Rome artists and?the historic Fairview / E.S. Brown African American school exhibit.

George Thomason, long-time member of the Rome art community and retired chairman of the Shorter University Humanities Department, will show his paintings in the upstairs gallery at Harris Arts Center through Jan. 20.

Rome will also be represented at the center by the Pear Street Painters who will have a show starting Friday through Jan. 20.?

The exhibit, ?Collective Diversity,? features 75 works in multiple media. The works that comprise the exhibit are as varied as the artists who created them. They may be real or abstract, fact or fiction, or any combination ? created on paper, board or canvas in oil, acrylic, pastel, pen and ink, watercolor, papier-mache or fabric.

The artists represented in ?Collective Diversity? include Wanda Riggs-Mack, Becky Lucas, Nadia Brown, Eric Dempsey, Linda Angio and Randy Eidson.

The Harris Arts Center?s annual Black History Month exhibit will be on display Jan. 23 to Feb.15, and will feature an exhibit focusing on the historic E.S. Brown/Fairview African American school of Cave Spring which served the surrounding community from 1925 to1968.? Most of the school buildings were demolished at that time, but a need to preserve the school?s history lives on in its curator, Joyce Perdue-Smith.?

There will be a reception at HAC on Jan. 29 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Harris Arts Center is located at 212 S. Wall Street in Calhoun.
